Overview
Urological surgeon Mr David Wetherell will outline the initial assessment of men who present to general practice with Lower Urinary Tract Symptoms (LUTS), treatment options and management in general practice.

He will then give an update on Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia (BPH) including medical and surgical management options.

Red flags that require early referral to a urologist will be discussed. Case studies will be used for context.

Learning Outcomes
By the end of this activity, participants will be able to:

  1. Perform initial assessment and investigations for male LUTS.
  2. Identify the red flags for early referral to a urologist.
  3. Initiate initial management (pharmacological and non-pharmacological) for a man with BPH in general practice and identify when to refer to a urologist.
